I use Media Studio Pro - excellent but pricey and probably much more than you need. Try Ulead's Gif Animator. It's cheap - maybe has a time-limit demo - and does a lot of cool things. I think it can do avi's - I know it can do sequenced frames - so worst case you'd have to re-render sequenced frames.
