whoa, what are your settings.......are you using advanced render functions(soft shadows, volumetrics, true ambiance)?you may want to bring the "pixels per ray",or the "ray-depth" down a bit.Reflection, transparency, and volume materials will zonk out the render engine if combined with the advanced render settings(if they are too high).Very high rez textures can add a bit as well. What is the image exactly? your time is at 1century,21years,29months,38days,8hrs,0min,28sec...maybe,or 2 pass' one at 1day,21hrs,29min,38sec, and the other at 8hrs,0min,28sec for the anti-alias maybe? thats real crazy to saty the least.

The short answer is yes, you can have a week's worth of tea and biscuts - a holiday in the Channel Islands - and pursue and advanced degree at Oxford.

PS - Had a damn fine time perusing your site. =)

That 256MB ram trying to cope with 428MB br5 file looks interesting. Problem is (probably) that you're hitting your hardrive to do the render (and everytime you do anything in the file) - this will slow down the render process by ridiculous amounts as you've found out by the looks of things. EDIT - and my, that is a truly ridiculous amount lol

Damn, that's crazy long! Wouldn't it suck to wait 120 yrs only to have the power go out. Then you'd have to start over :-/

Gog ( ) posted Mon, 05 July 2004 at 3:13 AM

Looks like you've got time to nip to the shops...... If I was you I'd buy some more RAM.... (if the file is 428M, consider trying to get 1.5 or 2 Gig of RAM, you'll need it)

Hopefully Daz can get bryce renders times down a bit (maybe to half a century!) lol

ddruckenmiller ( ) posted Mon, 05 July 2004 at 10:57 AM

That's some crazy-fiendish stuff you've got going. Sorry I don't have a better setup (network, lightning, etc.) myself or I'd offer to help.

Aldaron ( ) posted Mon, 05 July 2004 at 2:10 PM

Ummm that's 1 day : 21 hours : 29 minutes : 38 seconds Yes it's still a long time the second number 8:00:28 I think is how long the last pass took....these numbers are NOT accurate and do not include AA time so multiply by at least 3 :)

ocddougdotcom ( ) posted Mon, 05 July 2004 at 3:23 PM

2 days? Heh, that's nothin'....My average is 2 to 4 days, but I use light domes usually so it serves me right ;-)

ddruckenmiller ( ) posted Mon, 05 July 2004 at 5:22 PM

RJ's gone and booleaned every pore and hair follicle into his rasta-predatoresque creation and probably has a poly count that's through the roof.

I may have given up light domes for good. Five of my last six posts have rendered out in less than five minutes - 'Amber Myopia' ran longer because the entire groundplane was glass and I was driving light into it. It all evens out though - even though 'The Wurlitzer of Wisdom' rendered in four minutes and thirty seconds, it still took me 84 versions to achieve some sort of balance with Bryce's handling of ambience and transparency.

came home yesterday to find the computer sitting in the corner with the HD light burning a bright hole in the opposite wall. Had to crash and burn to get it back (boy am i glad i saved regularly). Walked away and had a drink, later ('bout midnight) decided to render as layers and composite later in paintshop, (not something i normally do - 99% of my images are one pass Bryce renders) hopefully should have results by weekend.

No shame there, nothing wrong with multi-pass...

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 06 July 2004 at 11:41 AM

A render I'd like to do at the moment came up with a time of 8:15:26:04, yes that's right eight days and then some more, and the only thing it is trying to do is a lot of transparency on some DAZ hair. My system, Athlon 3GHz CPU, 1Gb ddr ram, and 2x120Gb hard drives. The sooner DAZ can get out the faster render engine the better. 8) Catlin

looks like it's gunna be a multipleday render, but don't feel too bad, I've got a render running on my laptop now (2.4Ghz & 512MB RAM) for like 3 weeks and 3 days and a bit. I'm guessing (read hoping) it'll be done within another 2 weeks. No shame there, nothing wrong with multi-pass... Indeed, sometimes it even is the only way your render will ever come together. Catlin, nice system you've got there! I want one like that, got any spare 3Ghz 1Gb ddr ram 2x120Gb hd systems lying around? I'll pay you 13.40 euro's for it (that's all I have right now :P)
