Subject: Help on how to distribute freebie

I made a texture for Sara's (body, head, eyes) and I applied the texture to a transformed Sara (played with the parameters dials until she looked like I wanted).

Now I would like to offer the textures and MAT files and that is no problem, but I would like also to offer that particular Sara's look... now that is a problem. ;o)

I don't know how to do that.

Can someone help me please?

Export the body part as an .obj and save it as a morph.

It is the head that has changed. I thought to save as a morph, we had to do it for every little parts? France

You can just export the head as an object to be used as a morph.

Thanks. I tried File - Export - Wavefront object... I can't check the box for "save as morph target". What is it I missed? France

Poor sara... look what I did to her! Since I wasn't able to export the wavefront object with "morph target" checked, I tried exporting it anyway. Then I loaded the morph target to a new Sara and that is the result. Something tells me it didn't work right. ;o) France

oh my, that hurts!! I've had the same difficulty with not being able to check the box for "save as morph target", which is what the tutorials say to do. So I'm also interested to hear what solution someone comes up with for you. sorry I can't help, but good luck with this. I hope you can get it to work, because I love that top pic of your transformed sara! jen

Thanks. I tried to do Dr.Geep tutorial on that a few weeks ago and I had the same problem: can't export with "save as morph target" checked. And I can't understand why! I guess we'll find a way. If I can't save the morph target, I will distribute the changes as a PZ3, I guess, but the file is saved as a PZZ now and it is 3.5Mb so... I hope someone will be able to help me. France

Okay, I was able to save the object as a morph target. Then I loaded Sara, selected her head, went in Properties and selected Add morph target. Loaded the morph target I just created and... it does exactly the same thing as in post 6 here. Why is that??? France

try in the joint editor zero the figure then apply the morph to it and THEN export the obj and see if that works.

iamonk ( ) posted Thu, 15 July 2004 at 2:30 PM

If it is just dial settings for the head, you could save the face in your expressions folder and distribute the .fc2. I don't see a reason why you couldn't select "as a morph target" unless you had more than the head selected. Sara has the eye guide, are you selecting this as well? It should only be the head. I don't think this would make a difference, but she comes with a pose to turn off the eyeguide... ...grasping at straws. Whenever I save a morph target I do it from the default pose, only morph dials changed.

Francemi ( ) posted Thu, 15 July 2004 at 2:45 PM

It is only dial settings so it would be easier to distribute the fc2. How do I save it as a fc2? Do I simply add it in the Expressions library with the + sign? France

Yup

EnglishBob ( ) posted Thu, 15 July 2004 at 3:01 PM

On a point of order... You shouldn't distribute a morph in OBJ format unless you 'squish' it first, so that you aren't distributing a copyright mesh. Just use the FC2 approach, it's easier unless you've used magnets or custom morphs. Select your figure, and add it to the Face library with (+). If you click on 'select subset' you can pick only the face shaping morphs, and omit the expression morphs - that means that the face can be applied to a figure that has an expression set without altering it.

Well guys, I tried and it doesn't work. I can save the face in the Expression library but when I apply it to Sara, she doesn't look anything like on the image at the top of this topic. The only noticeable change is the ears. ;o( So I'm back to square 1. I guess I will have to keep her for myself. France

If you write down the dial settings you used to achieve her, then apply the Face library pose to a 'blank' Sara, do you get the same settings? This should work. Puzzled as to why it doesn't.

Francemi ( ) posted Fri, 16 July 2004 at 6:34 AM

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean by "blank Sara". It's not much that I changed in the dials. If I remember correctly, I used the X scale for the head and put it at 95%, I used 2 different smile settings, eyes closed, ice elf ears, nose smaller, pointed. That's about it. I did all that on Sara with the head and nose (Digital Hippies) applied. This is what I've tried: I added the face in the Expression library with the + sign. I closed the document and started a new one. I loaded Sara2 default and applied the expression. Didn't work. I closed and started a new document again. Loaded Sara2 with head and nose morphs already applied to it and applied the expression. Again, no change except for the ears. France

Aha! Scale settings aren't saved in pose or face files. I think there's a way around this, but I can't remember it right now. I've changed the subject line, but you might want to ask about this specific point in a new thread.

Francemi ( ) posted Fri, 16 July 2004 at 7:02 AM

Ok, I'll start a new post now. But it's not only the scale settings that didn't work. The eyes closed, the nose pointed tip, narrow, etc., didn't work either. Just the ears. France

Hmmm... Now I think back, I had this trouble before. Somebody sent me a copy of a face file, and I couldn't get it to work properly either. I think I've deleted the files now, but I'll check.

bnetta ( ) posted Fri, 16 July 2004 at 8:48 AM

ook ( a blonde thought) what about just saving her as a cr2 file?? wouldn't i get the morphs used and the dail settings along with the textures your going to give out?? netta

Francemi ( ) posted Fri, 16 July 2004 at 9:15 AM

Yes, I tried that. The cr2 file is as large a file as the pz3, ie. about 15Mb. ;o( France
