Very real world looking stuff! Will it have camera presets as well? Thanks for showing Larry F

stonemason ( ) posted Sat, 24 July 2004 at 5:46 AM

Hi Larry "Will it have camera presets as well?" I hadn't thought of it,having had it in Poser I can say it's very easy to navigate.I'll bear it in mind when its closer to the final. It will also have a light set up once spotlight positions are sorted out. Stef

Brilliant modeling, Stef! :o) Even without the textures, you've already created a stunning environment. Don't forget to model a door handle for that back door. (Unless of course it is a fire exit with no entry allowed... but then again there shouldn't be a vent grille in the door if that's a pressurized stairwell). :o) Cheers! M

You need another section of ladder from the first "floor" of the fire escape to the ground. These ladders pull down. But having been born/raised in Chicago I feel qualified to say it's great and I'll buy it in a hearbeat :)

Hi Rebekah, unusually its still way under my usuall budget of 30k,comfortably sitting at 23788,so there's still plenty of room for more modelling :) I try to keep my models as low poly as possible,if only because I make large detailed textures to compliment the mesh. Cheers -Stefan

stonemason ( ) posted Sat, 24 July 2004 at 7:51 AM

movida ..good spot :) Yes,thats another thing I've yet to add but definitely on the list,I have to get some more detailed photos of that part of the escape before working on it so I can get it moving as it should, also the floors of the escapes will be transmapped grilles,I feel this is one area where I can get away with it :)

Chas ( ) posted Sat, 24 July 2004 at 9:31 AM

This is phenomenal! If it turns out anything like Industrial or The Display Room, I'll be on it in a heartbeat. How much will be moveable (dumpster lid, doors windows, garbage cans / lids, pallets, boards...)?

wow!..getting a lot of replies on this one, many thanks :)I'm very pleased everyone likes it. Propably a good time to plug the other 2 'Dark Places' set's. Firebirds & Fatale, thanks for your support,in keeping with the theme this will be sold only at Daz, Chas, while nothing is finalised yet..here's a basic rundown, Trash can lids will be parented to the can, dumpster lids will be parented, rotations set etc..some windows will open/close,fire escape ladder will drop or rise, overhanging cables may get morphs for swinging in the breeze.the back door may open into a smaller room, the 2 side doors on the left may open although at the moment it has a padlock that may inhibit that somewhat :) possible moveable manhole cover, blah, blah In addition to the full set as it is seen in promo shots,I'll have a librarie containing extra versions of all the objects by themselves, from pallets, broken bottles, tyres and trash cans all the way down to ciggarrete butts again, its still wip so anything can happen. Cheers! Stefan

Did someone say "Stonemason junkie"? I believe I'm already one. Due to him, Moe, and Sanctum Art, my wallet suffers greatly. Stefan, this piece looks much more detailed that I had imagined when we last discussed it here. You also answered my question with your last post on the "accessories" being available in a library. Now, on to some other questions: (1) Will this model you show above be "fixed" like this (meaning the "accessories" will be permanently in those positions) or will the "accessories" just load from a MAT pose? (2) You mentioned manhole cover...reminds me of earlier discussions on steam "opportunities". IIRC, you said you might consider some "steam" props. Looking at the first shot, on the right, near the corner of the wall, a small pipe extrudes through the wall...another possible steam point? (3) What about lighting? Something anchored to the wall(s)? Moveable light posts? (I see you already have at least one industrial light above the doorway) Just looking for something for Vue's point lights. Well, it's off the a great start and no matter what the final package contains, it's a done deal for me. Keep us posted!

Awesome stonemason! And I just have to tell you how much I just love your little mock pop-up window for your Model Stats. Very clever. I also have to say what efficient mesh you have. Well done, and as usual, excellent work! Xena, when I first read your reply post here, I thought you were saying that you were becoming a stonemason... then I read the "fan" part. :/ I think I need some coffee. Cheers! Pam

Great modeling Stonemason - proportions and composition really makes this read well - and you still managed to leave a lot of room for the characters and whatnot folks might people this with. I can see everything from a neighborhood kid hangout to a dance number from WestSide Story to a SPAWN fight scene being done with this :) WTG :)

Hi all,crikey!..grab some sleep & I'm swamped in comments :),thank you all for the interest

Chuck..
"(1) "Will this model you show above be "fixed" like this (meaning the "accessories" will be permanently in those positions) or will the "accessories" just load from a MAT pose?"
the main prop will propably be parented pieces, everything loaded as one,yet each piece still moveable by itself

"Looking at the first shot, on the right, near the corner of the wall, a small pipe extrudes through the wall...another possible steam point?"

I'm thinking of adding another vent below that for steam, aswell as the manhole cover..I just need to perfect a transmapped steam prop for the scene.something that would look good in animation too.

"What about lighting? Something anchored to the wall(s)? Moveable light posts?"
yup:)..I'll add a couple spotlights above the other 2 doors, and one in the props folder too,the light above the back door would be best suited to an omni light.

Strixowl,little D..cheers guys :)

madkat ..:( unfortunately I dont yet have P5,I do ensure there are no colinear facets(which p5 doesnt like)..but that's as far as any P5 tweaks go,you may need to adjust bump maps in P5,and of course turn off poly smoothing,.
Getting P5 & having specific P5 textures is still on my list of things to do,displacemet mapping for instance would be ideal for a brick texture here.add some reflection to the windows & your away!
I'm sure you wont miss it when its available,It'll be heavily promoted here and at Daz :)

iw43d ,ernyoka1,jade_nyc ,ynsaen ..thanks :)

Suede, pleased to hear the proportions appear ok,its all modelled by eye so there's always a risk my objects scaling will be off, fortunately thuogh aside from th bottles this one turned out ok."dance number from West side story,lol..thats the cool thing about making these for the Poser community, you never know what people are going to with it.

Jeff,xeno,guarie,..cheers guys :)

MachineClaw ..hehe,my thinking too mate,I had the clone brawl from Reloaded on pause, studying the doors & windows for this,

Xena..slip one my way hun,:)

..again,thank you all for the support, its this kind of encouragement that gives me the drive to get it finshed

Now I'm off to grab some more reference photos of fire escapes(lots of fun cruising the citys dark alleys)..later all!

Stefan

I'd say all it needs is broken concrete, potholes, and ruts in the ground-plane. Add a couple morphs to make it either ab old alley or a fairly recent construction? Fantastic WIP so far!

Superb modelling Stefan!! Totally convincing even without the textures. My minds running away with what you could do with them! Peeling posters, decaying stucco..how about a neon 'exit' sign blinking away. Puddles and irregular paving on the ground plane? Now we do need a good poser rat..! I'm looking forward to this one_ your stuff never disapoints

chemicalbrother ( ) posted Sun, 25 July 2004 at 5:17 AM

very nice work indeed.the attention to detail in the modelling is stunning

stonemason ( ) posted Sun, 25 July 2004 at 6:51 AM

"Peeling posters," There's actually a modelled poster on the fence :)I'll have it as a stand alone in the props folder too so you can scale & position it as you need :) "Now we do need a good poser rat..!" I think we can leave that in your more than capable hands Noggin :)you have the best animals around. Puddles will propably appear, although in PP & P4 its always quite hard to get anything decent in the way of puddles,at least without true reflections, the ground plane I suspect will get alot more work Cheers -Stefan
