Usually, there will be some sort of filter that will take the picture and cut it into equal 4ths, and then flip them horizontally and vertically, so the outside edges now lay against one another, on the inside. Then with varying opacity, one would use the clone stamp to hide the visable seams, after you're done you can use the filter again and flip it back. That's about it. In Photoshop the filter is called "offset", and instead of the clone stamp I use the "healing" tool which can hide seams, sometimes in seconds, it's like cheating, it works so well. You would need to check out the freeware 2D editors, see which one you can have at least the stamp tool with varying opacity's. AgentSmith
