When I'm working with grays it's difficult to impossible to see the cursor. Has anyone found a way to deal with this problem?

You could use the Standard Painting Cursor. Might help. Edit > Preferences > Display and Cursors

I use PS to paint hair on my Poser models. Often I have to use a brush size of 1 pixel. This makes it virtually impossible to see the paintbrush. Therefore when I have trouble seeing it, I press the Ctl key and where ever the paintbrush is on the screen it turns into an arrow then disappears when I release the Ctl key. Hope this helps you.
