Subject: My Wings don't Fly

Help please. I bought Serenity recently. I am trying to put wings on her and my wings I use for Steph and Vic will not attach to the Mil Girls V3 preteen. So I went and found UI Wings. I was able to get them applied just fine using the import object method. I have ThornWorks beautiful textures. The textures are not showing up in my P. Library. I see them in explorer and they are all there under textures. Is there an easy way to apply the textures within Poser or do I need to complete the entire figure then export as 3DMax into Vue or Bryce, then apply the texture. Then reimport them to Poser? I am probably making the whole process a lot harder than it should be. Thanks for any help you can give.

First, stop and take a deep breath while I try to unconfuse you. Since you have the UI wings I'll explain them.. I'm assuming you have a figure loaded.. Load your wings, note that they are made up of little dots and are high on your screen. Now select a wing and hit crtl+sft+7 to change it to cartoon display. Do the same for the other wing. Now, select the BODY and you should be able to use the y trans dial to move the wings down to your figure. It's probably going to disect the figure. Rotate your view so the figure is close to 90 deg. Now, use the z trans dial to move the wings back, watch when the poke through just disappears and STOP. Now go to the hiearchy window, select the body of the wings and drag it to the chest of your figure. The wings should be parented to the chest. As far as texture, the default UI wings have a texture applied which won't show up until you render. Hope I didn't confuse you even worse.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Not sure what the UI Wings are, but if they are an older model, like Thorne's Universal Wings, there may not be any MAT files. So you won't see the textures in your library. (Believe it or not, in the old days people used to have to apply textures one by one, using the materials menu.)

Have look in Freestuff, and see if someone's made MAT files. Often, kind people do that for older products that didn't come with them. The Universal Wings have MAT poses, as well as a pose that parents them to the figure, in Free Stuff.

With the Universal wings 1 I found you had to load the texture and transparency maps in the material room. The textures don't show until rendered. It would I suppose be handy to have a set of Mat poses to help load them quickly.

Thanks everyone. I moved on to another project but will try that one again tomorrow. I copied all your answers I will have on the top of my list for tomorrow.

If it's the Universal Wings you have, search Free Stuff. LesBentley made MAT files for them, along with a pose file that parents them to the figure. Makes it a lot easier to apply textures. :-)
