A couple of weeks ago I asked here what my next set should be. Everyone wanted the David Fantasy set, followed by the David Classic set. I submitted the Fantasy Set last week, so now it's outta my hands and being reviewed in Beautiful Utah. Now it's time for the Classic set. I figure it;ll have a set of sandals or two (these are from the Fantasy Set), One classic loin cloth, one over the shoulder short thingie (what DO you call them?), one over both shoulders short thingie, and one long toga with draping from hell. And of course jewelry. I always try to include jewelry. I like doing jewelry. They'll all have Muscular, Muscular2, Barbarian, and Superhero morphs. 3 to 5 textures for each piece. What do you think? Would you buy it? Any ideas for improvement or anything else you think should be added?

It's hard to see the screen for the drool. I may just be dirty-minded but it strikes me David's loincloth is waaay too short-- unless it morphs, in which case, never mind. Very glad you are actually taking on a toga. A simpler classical robe like the faux toga they gave Mike 3 wouldn't go amiss either. Please, can one of them sit? Please, or at least recline. I know that it's harder than hell to do. But I would definetly cross your palm with silver-- ok, fine quality plastic;-) for something long that could sit in those nice Alma-Tadema rooms they have in the PC. Cheating with slits in the side is absolutely ok with me. Emily

Huminahumina... I'd buy it, depending on the price. Can I just buy you, instead, and chain you to my computer desk? :D You're so talented... :D

The gold one in the middle is a wee bit too short. Cats love playing with dangly bits and this poor guy wouldn't dare walk down the Via Attica without it becoming the Way of Attack! :)= Spartans wore a short semicircular cloak over one shoulder, and nothing else. Carolly

Ooh a nice set. And one thing I HAVE to ask you! That vein-bumpmap used on the guy in the loincloth.. where is that from? I MUST have that! I've been searching for ages after a vein-bump map!

ernyoka1: The vein bumpmap is a freebie from the old GPA site. Carolly: They'll all have longer morphs when I'm done (grin). And I'm trying to get a cloak like that, but I'm not good with cloaks. Emily: Working on the gown now. I want more folds on it than the one for M3. I'll post a preview in a little while. The loincloth has a couple of morphs to make it longer and pose the flap. I was trying for the kind that was used by the rennasainse painters on Christ when he was crucified, more a wrap than a loin cloth. Khrys: And they said I was kinky.... Thank you all! Ideas that help are greatly appreciated!

a laurel wreath might be nice

Not quite laurel, but something stylized. Still very much a WIP. Suggestions? Any good pics of a laurel wreath?

Try really hard to make it very draping, lots of folds. How does this look? It has a morphing front flap, the back of the wrap goes longer for more cover (but not much more).

Very very cool JIm, the Wreath is interesting too but if you could manage the traditional Laural wreath that would be too cool. Now all he needs is wing-ed sandals and Wing-ed helm and you'll have Mercury. ;)and No, I don't mean Merlin Olsen, though, on that topic ;)

Would it be possible to make any of these using Dynamic Cloth? I'm brand new to Poser 5 so I'm not sure what's involved in making dynamic cloth clothing props, but I'm really amazed by what I've seen so far. Thanks a million for continuing to support David. These outfits look great.

wrpspeed ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 7:38 PM

I'd buy it all ready but cant find anywhere to click on it :)

Ack, I just realized. If they're dynamic clothing then DAZ probably won't carry them. Oh well, best of luck, Jim. These are really cool.

Jim, First the bad news. The Romans lost the war with Egypt. They went over dressed as soldiers (neat, tidy, efficient) and came back dressed as escapees from a grade B summer "mummy movie". Look at these guys! Trailing their wrappings down the forum behind them, afraid to sneeze because the whole shebang would come loose? Their urinals were public, but a guy would have to completely and carefully unwrap himself and hand the toga to someone to hold so it wouldn't drop in the dusty street. Considering how much booty Rome took from Egypt, this is definately The Mummy's Revenge.

And now for some better news... After going through my shelf of costuming books, starting with the nice big colorful ones, I discovered an entire Dover book on Greek and Roman clothing showing clear diagrammatic images of the pleats. I've got maybe a dozen books sitting next to the scanner with yellow tags in them, but I think you'll want to IM me with an email addy. That way I won't have to moosh down to 200 kb on pics where you'll want to see the detail. Meanwhile... this is a woman's trinket... but that wouldn't stop someone like Nero (among others who were known for wearing women's clothing). This book is "Jewelry - 7000 Years" and helpfully shows examples of HOW the stuff was worn. I could see it draped on one of your males, but remember that they shaved their bodies. Scallop shells and oil. :( I had to reduce it, but can get you a better shot of the disks if you want it. Carolly
