I'm not sure if this will work but; maybe if you used a sphere tinted green instead of the sky for a background, then the reflective plane would mirror the color. I think. Turn shadows off on the sphere to avoid picking up any shadow from the tree. Now that I'm thinking about it, use a square for the sky to avoid curving the horizon.
