Subject: IMPORTING POSER WITH TEXTURES. PLEASE HELP

hund ( ) posted Mon, 06 November 2000 at 7:24 PM · edited Thu, 01 August 2024 at 11:31 PM

I have been trying for the last hour to get a poser figure to import into carrara with all of the maps and so far I haven't had any luck. I just get the untextured model. how do I do this and get all the maps including tex bump and trans in?

Quick answer: You Can't. Long Answer: You Can't. Informative Answer: It's rare that a file format such as OBJ (what I assume you are using) has the texture maps built in. Instead the OBJ comes with a MTL file that lets the program (carrara, in this case) know where to put the maps, and what groups everything is in. I'm not completely sure, but I think a few formats actually DO let you do this. Try 3ds. It's a good format to use any way. Otherwise, just slam all the maps back on it in Carrara's Texture room! If you export your OBJ to the same folder that contains your texture maps, it will work. I don't know about the bump and trans maps, though. I just did a quickie trial with the P4 man and one texture map. I haven't played with Carrara enough to know what I am doing.

Excellent. That's what I was trying to say. The MTL file will not write the entire path of the material.

Yeah, MTL files ain't too smart.

On a related theme: Is there any way to import the ANIMATED PZ3 file into Carrara like you can with RayDream? Also, anyone know of the 3rd party (Th0r, for example) tie-ins for RDD been converted to C? Some folks have compared C to the combination of RDD & Infinity. I'd like to be able to dump the RDD if that were truely the case. Unfortunately--it's not:( Ray Dream's been very good to me--I just need the disk space!
