Subject: Deleting useless rooms?

scaramouche ( ) posted Mon, 16 August 2004 at 4:21 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 4:26 AM

Just got P5 and have no use at all for the Content Parasite room. I read a thread here a couple weeks ago on deleting P5 rooms but can't find it. I've also searched P5's docs but no luck. This newbie needs a step-by-step, if anyone can help. I'm on a Mac, with Poser 5 SR4. Thanks!

There was a post here last week about this subject. Long and the short is, don't do it, it breaks Poser.

I thought it was safe to remove Content Parawaste? It's the other rooms you can't remove. But I could be wrong... Oh, and there's a tut on how to do it over at PoserPros.

Yep, Content Parasite is safe to remove, the others aren't. Apologies if I wasn't clear in my above post.

I guess the reason it's safe to remove the content room but not any of the others is because the content room is the only one that doesn't do anything...

Actually, the Posr 5 interface and tools should be almost completely cusomizable... the problem is that you have to be able to read and understand the big xml file that controls it all, and have a good clue as to how everything effects everything else. Sooner or later, someone will figure it all out, and maybe we can have some skins for poser, but it will take a much smarter person than me. ;) The reason Content Paradise is safest and easiest to remove is that it doesn't interact with the rest of the application. Taking out the face room means removing elements that it will share with the hair room or the materials room, for instance. So, yes, that will probably break Poser.

I disagree m_m if you want Poser5 to connect to the internet every 5 minutes & transmit your serial number out into the ether for everyone who wants to intercept it then it's doing a good job ;)

Just a question for anyone who already took out content parasite - I followed the instructions in the tutorial mentioned above and I still have the Content Paradise tab at the top of the poser screen - should that still be there? - I imagined it would it disappear. Thanks.

No, if you did it right, the tab should be gone too.

You should check that the .xml file has been saved over the previous one and that the changes you made are in place.

Engel47 ( ) posted Tue, 17 August 2004 at 5:27 PM

Thank m_m and xantor - I will have to check it and make sure that the changes are still there.

Engel47 ( ) posted Tue, 17 August 2004 at 5:34 PM

Well I just checked the .xml file in a text editor which tells me there is no instance of the phrase ContentRoom left in the document - but I still have the content room tab in my Poser screen - anyone have any idea why??

xantor ( ) posted Tue, 17 August 2004 at 10:34 PM

The only likely explanation is that the changes you made to the xml file are wrong some way, check that there are no extra numbers or signs etc.

scaramouche ( ) posted Wed, 18 August 2004 at 1:22 PM

Ok, I've deleted ALL references to contentroom in the .xml document and...drumroll...IT WORKS!!! No more content parasite!!! (happy dance here) Thanks to all!

OK, now that you've got it right, save a copy of the edited version onto a floppy so that if you ever have to do a reinstall, you can just copy it into the ui folder and not have to go thru all that again.
