Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 1:45 am)
If you have Poser 4 for Windows, that version creates an RSR for items which have external geometry. This is not the same as the thumbnail RSR, by the way; this lives in the Geometries folder and has the same filename root. The geometry RSR is a more compact binary format which is designed to load faster than the OBJ, since your hard disk has less whirring to do and Poser has less thinking to do. An item with embedded geometry cannot take advantage of this, so Poser has to open the full version every time. The actual speed variation will depend on your computer; faster drives and processors will lessen the difference.
Ah darn...I am using Poser 5, and have all the updates. Although every time I use it. It takes about 2 minutes before it is loaded. And then when rotating, or moving it some where my computer gets choppy. All my other stuff I have no problem and most of those use Obj files. Only this one particular item in the character folder sure takes alot.

That's a really long load time. Are you sure it's not searching all over for badly-pathed textures? Have you run CorrectReference over it? Maybe someone technically-inclined has a way of editing the CR2 file to point at an .obj instead? (Don't look at me... I'm clueless LOL)

I don't think an external OBJ would make much difference if you're on Poser 5. How big is this thing - what's the size of the CR2, and does it perhaps have lots of big textures? Karen's point about texture paths is a good one, and I'd deinitely run Correct Reference over it. However the slowness you experience when moving the object indicates that it's resource hungry, and there may not be much to be done about that.

It is, SS7 Supercar (Poser Version) by "hankster"Really nice purchase, although I struggle with it in Poser (Choppy). I noticed the file doesn't come with obj, textures files (Only some for example: tires, gauges, lamps and Plate. None for car body and some others). Although I sure like to paint my car. :-)
The CR2 file is: 23,980kb
and
The RSR file is: 12kb

"The entire model is approximately 390,000 polygons." O.o GULP No wonder that your Poser slows down. IMO such a model isn't "Poser ready". But then that's just me. It sure looks gorgeous.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

I purchased a product here, and it doesn't use a Obj file, and I found it hard on my system (When rotating and other posings). So, I go out and purchase more ram (From 512 DDrs to 1Ghz DDr PC3200's "400mhz") and it still does the same. Got me wondering, why is this so hard on my system? Then realizing the character doesn't have an Obj file and uses Cr2 and RSR. Takes longer to load up, when selected. No question here, just a finding. Although feedback would be nice. Correct me if wrong. My system: WinXP (SP1) not SP2 yet AMD XP2200+ Crucials PC3200 1GHZ Ram (400mhz) Radeon 9600xt 128mb 80gb HD (7200RPM)
