There are 'free' host sites out there, but they can zap you for bandwidth use (i.e., suddenly they're not 'free' anymore) There may be some out there, just be careful; either there's hidden charges, or you you have more popups than a prarie-dog town..good luck.

When I first started I went with Angelfire (thru Lycos). Worked well. Kind of a pain to upload and get everything right, but basically not a bad host for free. Still have a redirect page up there linking to my site now (http://www.angelfire.com/art/markostimpypro/).

the free webspace thing is mostly gone. i think geocities might be the only ones left that don't kill you with nutter ads. i would also try spaceports and xoom, those are the ones i tried a long long time ago drac

well, let me suggest a couple to you. I was first hosted by something called ICDSoft.com (personal plan). $5/month, 333mb of space, and 5 gigs of transfer. LIGHTNING FAST support. Perfect uptime, etc. MySQL database, unlimited email accounts and forwarders, frontpage extensions, the works. I needed more space so i'm currently hosted by lunarpages.com (shuttle plan). $7.95 a month, 800mb space, 40 gigs of transfer, Good support (within 24 hours responses), perfect uptime, and everything else from icdsoft. If you want budget, go with ICDsoft. There is nothing like it anywhere else. I'll put my wife, my children, and my mother in law on it. Okay, I don't have any of those, but I would put them there, that's how much I trust ICDSoft. I was with them for 3 years. Lunarpages is very good as well. I have only been with them for two months now, and I've tried to deathkneel the servers through any way imaginable, but they're holding strong. So it's good as well. And then a domain name is something like $10-20 a year. drac

btw, icdsoft is the cheapest you'll find with that kind of service. for $7.95 you'll get a number of hosters, such as lunarpages, ipowerweb, and some others. research them first. google for "servicename hosting problems" on the net and in the google groups, you'll see just how many people are going to be complaining about it. like for instance i was on the fence between lunarpages and ipowerweb, and there were a number of horror stories for both. i just went with lunarpages and figured, what the hell. i was lucky. if i would have gone with godaddy.com or some other crap hosting plan, i would have been a very angry drac. nice drac

Thanks drac! I've just taken a look at ICD and it appears to be more than ok! Think I'll go with them. Can't do it quite yet as I'm totally maxed out on the old credit card, lol, waiting for a transfer to go through. Many thanks! johny

Spymac's free service isn't bad. (100MB of storage/web space.) You'll need an ftp program such as Filezilla (filezilla.sourceforge.net) I think at times you'll hit the bandwidth ceiling pretty quick. (They don't say anything other than domain can't be reached, or something like that.) But once the time limit or whatever has passed, everything's back to usual. Angelfire also works, but has more ads (which aren't always great on the layout) and less total bandwidth allotment. Also there are many free hosts that stay free when you reach the bandwidth limit, it's just that nobody can access the site untill the timer resets (most hosts set this to 1 day.)

Yea, for free Geocities is probably your best bet.
