When browsing the Poser gallery, I notice that almost all images are postworked. Sometimes to the point that the contribution of Poser is hardly visible anymore. Few images are (almost) untouched. But don't underestimate the power of the simple (p4/pp) or not so simple (p5) render engine of Poser! It is possible to get brilliant results straight out of the renderer. And this is the moment to show it. Yesterday was my birthday, and like some other community members, I'd like to celebrate it by holding a contest. Not based on a theme, this time, but based on technique. Join the SVDL Pure Poser Contest and show us what you can do without postwork.

The rules are simple: any subject is allowed, as long as it stays within the TOS guidelines. But NO POSTWORK. Resizing or cropping the final render is OK, but color adjustments are not - adjust the lights and colors in Poser and rerender!

Since the capabilities of the Poser 5 Firefly renderer are vastly superior to those of the simple P4/PP scanline renderer, there are two categories in the contest, each with their own first, second and third prize. So there are six prizes to win!

Go for it! I hope to see many, many entries.

Steven.

What a great idea! Sometimes people get caught up in achieving perfection that they don't realize postwork is not the only solution - there's also PREwork, all the work that goes in to making great textures, morphs, etc., setting up lights, atmosphere and so on. Looking forward to this!

Cool idea.

And if you like pure Poser, don't forget this month's Poser forum challenge. It's "no postwork"!

svdl ( ) posted Wed, 18 August 2004 at 11:43 AM

The contest has started! It'll end on October 1st, so you've got six weeks to think of something. Should be long enough.

This sounds very interesting. Is asking help from the organizer allowed?...LOL!...Just a short rant: Actually I started out something like that..no postwork whatsoever, and then somewhere along the way I was 'assimilated' ..hehe.. But this is an excellent idea, so count me in...:D

AAhh! The wild dutchman strikes again. I've got a ton of these already. What's the call on rendering to the same window? Say if you go over 6 v3s...Or is it the one shot render.

Shadow_Fyre ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 1:32 AM

Great idea and Happy Birthday, I'm going to do this one, I rarely do any postwork also.

Shadow_Fyre ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 1:34 AM

But I do have a question. Can they be previoulsy posted images, or do they have to be new renders not having been posted anywhere?

DarkStarRising ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 8:42 AM

ahh haaa, sounds good to me, a pure poser render! what a refreshing change!! ill be entering, as sometimes doing post work can sometime either make or brake and image, so this is cool :D thanks! oh and weezie, click on link in first post to get full rules!!

In the words of DarkStarRising:

Darkness within darkness,
a shadow of a form lays upon the floor,
looking at herself
looking at her own shadows of loneliness"
