The type of modification you raise about copyright though, would (in my limited understanding) be a breach of copyright if you did not first obtain permission from the copyright holder of the original item. Even with permission your copyright would only be for the modications. When I say 'you' and 'your' it is a figurative expression. The grey area I have raised elsewhere appertains to a complete destruction of the original item. It's the grey areas that maintain the lifestyle of the legal proffession!
