Hi Sam ...I used to have the Canon Powershot A40...and I suggest You go direct to Canon in France....[http://www.canon.fr/] ....ask there for the PDF Download...I am sure they will help....I too noticed that the Flash was very limited....and preferred inside Photos taken without the Flash.
