Hmm, I can't recall exactly what the tut said so I'll go through how I do it.
With your object loaded go to
file> export> wavefront OBJ
you'll get options, choose "single frame" for the first, then you'll get a menu called "Hierarchy Selection". You'll see a bunch of body part names with X marked in the box beside them. First you deselect the main figure by unchecking the one that is called the name of your figure. I am using my character Lil for this example, most figures will be called "Figure one" or their name if they have one. Deselcting that should make all the other Xs go away. Now you select the one body part you want to export, lets say "head". You want to scroll down and also deselect any other figures loaded in your scene. Like if you have Elf and a piece of her clothing, you need to turn off all Xs for both figures, except the one part you want to export.
Now you name the .obj and save it wherever you like.
You get one final set of options. Select only the last one "as morph target" and deselect the others. ( I have no idea why it defaults the way it does, must be good for something but not for making morphs.)
That's all there is to it, should give you a working morph.
