tjohn - no, what you're looking at in my screenshot is....the furthest-out object is my original, with its origin handle showing in the centre of the picture. That's the one I multireplicated. The rest of the objects are what happens when I multireplicate. That's what I'm complaining about!!!!! If I haven't done anything to the primitive it multireplicates properly, but if I've transformed it in any way by scaling or rotating I have problems.
