Actually, I'd like to add more to that thought ...
3D art (that is, the process of building, rendering, and texturing models yourself) takes patience and dedication. The beauty of Poser is that it allows you to create 3D art without all of the technical mumbo jumbo that a LOT of people don't have the desire to learn.
It takes at least a year to become really proficient at a 3D program and learn all of its features. So I think it's a safe bet that a lot of 3D hobbyists won't want to dedicate that much time into learning how to do it themselves.
Poser is about as close to a "make art" button that 3d hobbyists will ever have. 8-)
