Here in Italy we have, since the later eighties, a fully functional variant of one of our automobiles running by a little electric device that divides hydrogen and oxygen from water contained in the fuel compartment, then use an hydrogen-cell motor to run the car. This prototype was devised and constructed by our mayor automotive industry... then left under a big layer of dust. The projected off-the-shelf cost of this car would be a mere 3000$ more than the main model (that costs around 12000$)... Talk about power plays... :P
