For the same reason that papers/magazines that feature big breasts usually do fairly well: it panders to the predominant male "sex fantasy" image. And therefore (for the publications) brings in extra readers, which in turn keeps the advertisers happy. For the gallery-posters, similar effects start moving them up the charts. Like it or not, sex sells. As for the psychology behind all this, macho men like this stuff 'cos they can show it to all their macho mates, and they can all go "PHOARRR!!" without having to admit that they'd be intimidated by such a female..:-)) Also - check out all those fertility figurines from primitive (and some not-so primitive) cultures. Regarding Star Wars and LOTR - that appeals to the "little-boy fantasy" part of male nature. Underdog learns, gets better and better, and finally beats overwhelming odds (whilst still being wholesome). IE - put world/universe to rights. So it's just (male) human nature:-) PS. I am male. I don't like big breasts, and never buy the publications that specialise in them. But I do love sci-fi and fantasy:-) (I must be one of the few people here who read LOTR as it was originally being published! Sorry for the split infinitive..) Cheers, Diolma
