Both Digital and film have their pros and cons and you really need to decide which way you want to go. For the same money you will get a film camera with much more manual control plus the ability to use different lenses than you would with digital, the running costs can be expensive if you take lots of photographs or like to experiment. On the other side of the argument digital is in most cases much more convenient, the initial outlay is generally more but once you have your camera and memory cards etc, the running costs are almost nil (except printing media etc) however you only need print what you want/like so any experiments that go west dont cost you anything except time. Choosing a camera is so hard because the competition is so fierce and they want you to be so pleased with you camera that you buy another one of their make next time. There is no easy answer to which camera you should buy; many people will tell you this one is better than that one Nikon users will tell you they are the best option as will Canon users etc, many people including myself are loyal to the brands that they have used for years. In the end the final decision is yours based on what you think is best for you. Consider all possibilities in your price range from the major brands Canon Nikon Olympus Fuji Minolta are the big guns. Personally I would look toward Canon (but I am biased and loyal to them) Read lots of reviews and comparisons pros. cons etc. Go into camera shops and ask to have a go with some cameras to see if you like the look/feel of them. Jessops are very good and will let you try some of the models in the shop (within reason) and usually have sample prints from some of the digital cameras. If you decide to go down the digital path look at the link (aangus beat me to the one that I usually give!) But this one is good also, also look at the types of memory that they use (some are more expensive than others)
