A few things to check: If running 2000 or xp turn off bells and whistles (menu animations, xp windows look etc) Did you close everything down except poser? Or at least turn off stuff you aren't using when using poser? It is possible to run other apps with poser (quite a few actually) but some driver apps might need to be closed or stuff that just hangs out on the task bar taking up memory.
