THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: CGTalk Challengers please post links here.

Is it just me, or is the forum engine at CGTalk really clunky? It kind of throws me off how the people who post often get moved to the head of the line. These are the first one's I try to browse and make comments on. The system is designed so that the first stay first and everyone gets shuffeled to the end. I could probably spend the entire contest trying to make sure I'd seen every entry. What I'd like to do is at least keep up with my fellow Rosity members. With that in mind I'd like to ask everyone who enters to go to the head of your thread and copy the url like drac did. Come back and post it here so it will be easier to find you when they move your thread.

you guys wanna do each other a favor and keep the threads ttt'ed? (to the top) with innane comments and so on? half of this challenge is 'helping' each other, and visibility. after the treatment bryce got from the organizers, i wouldn't mind cheating a bit. Drac

draculaz ( ) posted Sun, 24 October 2004 at 11:17 AM

and btw, the threads don't get moved to the bottom of the list, they just keep dropping. basically if you can keep yourself on the main page, you've got a fighting chance people notice you. and a lot of it is that, the first round is public voting :)

Coltzero ( ) posted Sun, 24 October 2004 at 12:31 PM

hehe, yea i know you get dropped, but moved is a stronger word, if ya know what i mean :P -CZ

electroglyph ( ) posted Sun, 24 October 2004 at 12:48 PM

I'm not talking about cheating. I'm just saying the forum over there is designed so the rich get richer and the poor get poorer as far as posts are concerned. I'd just like an easy way to find you all the first time. I did a search on the forum for electroglyph and got no hits. It turns out if you pull down under the search link you get advanced search where you can input a username (if you know it). Some of the Vetrans there have all their contest threads appearing as links in their signature at the end of each message. If I can find out how to do that it will be easier for people we talk to at that forum to reply back to us. I encourage you to work to build up any CGTalk member that builds you up not just the Renderosity members. I'm sure we can find enough real comments to keep each other busy. Right now we are all at a disadvantage not understanding how their forum engine works. It took me 30 minutes to refind myself the first time I went back. This thread will save valuable time until we understand their system better.

Traffic is quite high on that forum, but if i am correct there are about 560 competitors at the moment, and most of them are not that active (have less than 2 replies). So keeping yourself (with the aid of the friends (croonies) here) on the top-page should not be so hard i guess. But i think there should be content in the replies as well, just saying "Good work" and nothing else won't be much help.

I have seen some very good concepts passing by, very good indeed. Kory Heinzen is name i am going to follow.

Anyway here is my thread edit: You can add your thread-link in your sigfile wich you can change in your USER-CP (in the top left).

Thanks much RobertJ. and for everyone else this is how you do it. Now when you make a comment in another member's entry they can find their way back to yours.

Use the simple text-editor (in the edit options), and use [thread=thread-id]Click here![/thread] Where thread id is the number of your thread, works even better. Your thread will then show up as "Click here!", or off course your own text.

Best of luck to all you folks. It sounds like a brilliant contest; its too bad that they had to spoil it with the "Community Vote" crap. The winning entry should be based entirely on its artistic value, on how well it portrays the contest theme, as opposed to how well you can shmooze John Q. Public. ;)
