hi guys, No HDRI used here! The lighting and rendering was 100% poser5 with no post work bar logo addition. We would love to see a HDRI VUE render. HDRI is not really necissary. When it comes to lighting the first thing I would say is remove the peachy default light. The lighting structure used was quite simple. We tend to stick to the traditional lighting method which is- Create a; KEY LIGHT - this would be the main light which is typically placed 35-45 degrees to the side of the character. The colour of this light is used to set the mood of the image. FILL LIGHT - a muted light which doesn't cast any noticeable shadow used to fill in the shadow areas created by the key light. Typically it is placed close to the camera. BACK LIGHT - this creates the nice rim effect separating the character from the background. Place it high behind the character. The above is called three point lighting or a triangulation of lights. Other lights can be added like a soft KICKER light placed low to the ground to aid the specular effects. And then there's the SPECIAL used to define any little area which needs some attention! oh and not forgetting AMBIENT LIGHT other than that... ;) thanks all for your sentiments, we worked quite hard on the jolly troll, and still seem to be! (what with making little bits for him) Maybe we should write some lighting tutorials when we get a chance. BTW; Yansen you are absolutely correct in what you said!.
