1 - be sure you've conformed the clothing to the figure using the menu command Figure -> COnform to -> and then picked the right figure to conform it to (the person).
2 - Poses do take a long time do to, and only in the earilest stages (if ever) would you do it by grabbing a figure in the screen. Poses are done a bit at a time.
3 - On the properties panel of the dial palette for the stomach, uncheck visible and visible in ray tracing for parts of the body that aren't visible under the clothing. Aside from being a lot easier, it also reduces the load on the system when rendering.
