THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Initializing error

This might not be a topic for Bryce, but after closing Bryce and going to painter I got a "initializing error" that said there wasn't enough free memory to run painter 5.0.Although I could open Photoshop and two other programs at the same time. I rebooted the system which did not work.I also added 512mb of memory to my existing 512mb yesterday and when I go to system properties I have a total of 960 ram. Before installing the ram I never had any problems with not opening painter.I've done everything outside of reinstalling Painter. What to do? Thanx in advance Dave

Hi Dave. What kind of configuration do you have for your system, such as OS, CPU, etc? This might help us to come up with some hopefully helpful answers. I do know that Bryce is a memory hog, and is slow to release the ram it was using after you close the program.

How much memory is counted up during the memory test at boot up? I ran into an issue when adding ram, same type memory sticks made by 2 different manufactures. They did not play well together at all. Had to take it back and get a new stick from the same manufacturer as the first.

Have you checked your virtual memory settings ?

amd athlon 3000, 512 ram ddr sd at 300mhz. 2.1 gig processor 160 gig hd.After getting home tonite I took out the new 512 ram and regained my painter program.I guess its true that all memory isn't created the same.this module was made by pqi and purchased at frys for 79.00.My system info recognized a total of 960mb.after installing the new card. Now I'm back to 448mb.Thats why I could not figure out why when adding more memory I was getting "not enough free memory".

I think you should take out the old ram and try the new chip. 448(original recognized amount)+512(new chip)=960. Not having 64mb of ram recognized is probably part of the problem. That seems like a pretty decent sized chunk missing. Who knows what else might be wrong.
