THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Not So Official October Challenge Placings

Flak ( ) posted Thu, 11 November 2004 at 7:51 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 1:49 AM

Well, I decided it was time to do the deed and stop wondering what the results were.

Out came excel, and in a AS standard fashion, in went the votes (I hope they went in right - I double checked the top 4 places).

The top 5 are....

Claymor 46 votes
Drawbridgep 45 votes
rj001 24 votes
JaymonJay 22 votes
Jausse 19 votes

If anyone wants a recount, go for it - I won't be offended in the least.

But, in order to start the next short challenge - does Claymor have a suggestion....

edit - AS can provide the winners with their cheers and beers when he gets back from whereever. (no abacuses were harmed during this counting, though my VCR is looking non-functional now)

Like in years past, I recommend we do a November/December challenge and a "Seasonal/holiday" just for fun. 'Cuz Nov is almost half gone...

Flak ( ) posted Thu, 11 November 2004 at 8:38 AM

Oh, and lots of congrats to everyone that entered as well as the three place getters. Some great ideas in there and some really great images.

:-D Glad somebody stepped up and did this, thanks Flak. Congrats to the unofficial winners!

eelie ( ) posted Thu, 11 November 2004 at 9:54 AM

:( Not that I have time to do a challenge these days, but I too was wondering 'bout the winners. Congrats to the unofficials and thanks Flak! :o) Since the month is nearly half over, maybe a suggestion to go with Nukeboy's would be to do a holiday challenge, then have Claymor pick up with January's? Just my 2.125 cents worth (inflation, you know). ;o) Susan

Gog ( ) posted Thu, 11 November 2004 at 10:04 AM

It's what we often do, lets run with that, a holiday challenge until say 24 Dec and then Clay's challenge in Jan. Best seasonal picture then?

LOL....sheesh, AS turns his back for a few days and anarchy reigns!!! Coup d'etat and whatnot.... I knew I was close and actually had wondered about a Nov/Dec holiday challenge too. However, I feel a little like I am watching the election returns pronouncing me the winner of the election without knowing if it is an official win or not so, especially with the final count so close and potentially some precincts left to report, I think I'll wait to be sure every vote counts...or something.

Jaymonjay ( ) posted Thu, 11 November 2004 at 10:55 AM

Yeah, I counted too. Congrats to all the un-offical winners! :) A seasonal challenge sounds like a good idea.

wildman2 ( ) posted Thu, 11 November 2004 at 11:40 AM

congrats

"Reinstall Windows" is NOT a troubleshooting step.

MoonGoat ( ) posted Thu, 11 November 2004 at 11:52 AM

Nice work everyone, I believe my votes were dispersed among three of those people in the top 5, which is quite interesting. Anyway a seasonal/holiday challenge would probably ok, but you should all prepare for voting for whoever did the best Christmas tree or the best menorah. Maybe keep it just seasonal and stick to some kind of winter theme, I dunno. As you all probably know, challenges aren't exactly my cup o' tea, but if its particularly interesting I'll give it a shot. The only reason I didn't enter the speed challenge was that I had a massive idea drought coupled with massive geometry homework. Still, congrats to everyone, lets just wait and see what Claymor says...

Erlik ( ) posted Thu, 11 November 2004 at 12:50 PM

I say, go for a dark Christmas! Santa hanged, the elves nailed to the walls, the reindeer roasted on a spit, the North Pole mansion gutted by fire... Errr....

you're all too orderly and nice to each other. i'd like some blood. phil, you gonna take that sitting down man? pull a gore, demand a recount, tongue Tipper :D and the rest of you, a bit of mayhem would be great. like at least one person disagreeing. seriously. this is a completely orderly thread in the absence of supervising power. it's too civilized :P drac (troubled)

Jaymonjay ( ) posted Thu, 11 November 2004 at 5:14 PM

You know what? Drac is right! Dammit, Flak! The second 'j' in my name is supposed to be lowercase. You want a piece o' this? Huh? Huh!? :P

Flak ( ) posted Thu, 11 November 2004 at 5:54 PM

LOL, you're lucky you have any J's in your name at all. When I was doing the excel spreadsheet, it started refusing to accept a lower case j at all.... so I had "r 001", " Jaymon ay" and a few others lol. Sorry drac... I'll see what I can do next time (unless AS or clay sees me usurping their challenge powers and ban me indefinitely).

I sent an IM to AS yesterday but he hasn't seen it yet. I'm fairly sure AS wouldn't mind a little collective usurping of power while he's gone just to keep things running smoothly around here as far as the challenges go :) Hmm, so the general consensus seems to be that we hold a "seasonal" challenge then which would run from now till the end of this year (rosity time... 23:59 dec 31). By seasonal it could be a winter thing for the northern hemisphere, or a summer thing for the southern hemmisphere, or a christmas thing... fair range of scope there. And Claymor... assuming nothing untoward happens with the vote count, gets to do the January challenge when AS has hopefully had time to OK everything?? Does that seem reasonable and plausible to everyone?

Erlik ( ) posted Thu, 11 November 2004 at 6:24 PM

So, blood and mayhem ensues? Mmmm. I had something like that in mind for the last year, but I ended with the kitschy Woodies dancing on ice. Well, Christmas has to be kitschy. :-)

Flak ( ) posted Thu, 11 November 2004 at 6:25 PM · edited Thu, 11 November 2004 at 6:29 PM

Claymor - I'm currently burning the electoral roles, incinerating the ballot boxes and feeding the paperwork to the shredder in true political style ;) B1 bombers are also cleansing any precincts whose votes aren't in yet to remove that issue.

Besides, its the 11/Nov... the voting closed ages ago ;)

And a "dark" christmas is included in the seasonal thing as well (not wanting to rain on anyones parade or cool sounding ideas).

First is was Heresy, then it was Treason and now we have TREACHERY! You're all going to hell in a hangbasket! Actually, AS does so much on here already I'll bet he'll appreciate a bit of a break. So, let's get on with the next challenge (seeing as I came close to last in this one) Congratulations to the winners!

OK, I'm back. Been to Michigan for almost a week (mother in law funeral etc), so haven't been keeping up to date with anything much. Not really in the mood right now to contest the contest. But I think Claymor is a worthy winner in anycase. The 3 points I gave him meant I lost the challenge because of my vote.:-) But his picture is far better than mine, which is why I voted for it. Sorry Drac, any other time and I'd demand a recount. ;-) So, since it affects me more then anyone, I'd like to declare Claymor the winner of the October challenge. Well done Claymor. Close call, I'll get you next time.

Well said, drawbridge! Again, condolences on your MIL. And again on your having to go to Michigan. (That's where the aforementioned inlaws of note are from)

(Nukeboy sets himself up)

I've been there a couple of times, and as my mother said, "If you can't say anything nice, say.........."
