Man! and here I thought this thread would be about Master Chief. (Sorry, Just bought an Xbox)

The Atmosphere node should work, but it will take FOREVER to render. Experiment with your light and atmosphere settings without your character in the scene. IIRC you need to have a backdrop (like the single sided square) behind your light cone.

If you have photoshop or equivelent, I'd just draw The light cone on a seperate layer. If ya wanna get fancy you could have a slightly transparent Light layer below yor angel's layer and a very transparent one on top. You can play with things like Gradient fill to make it cooler.

If you have $800 burning a hole in your pocket get Bauhauss mirage, it does a brilliant job of quickly simulating volumetrics in 2d, and can even be animated. (Makes a good alternative to photoshop once you get used to how to do stuff.)
