Subject: Can't get normals creased on 3DS/OBJ import

Okay. Time for the experts. I've got 3DS and OBJ models that I bring into poser, and the normals are not creased. Thats okay if you bring in a OBJ banana, but if its a sci-fi door, its a mess. Does anybody know how to get POSER to recognize creases? In Bryce/et al, theres a routine that recalculates normals based on a cutoff angle, anything like that in POSER? So far, I've looked for this functionality in Carrea 1, but when it exports, it doesn't seem to pass on crease information. Any help greatly appreciated!!

Poser calculates normals on-the-fly, so to speak. It ignores any normals already included in the mesh, so there's little point in leaving them in. If you want creases, you'll need to create a tiny bevel along those edges, or else split the vertices along those edges.

If I understand you correctly, you mean objects brought into Poser look like a crumpled sheet. Easy enough to correct in UVMapper by selecting "Split Vertices". In UVMapper Pro, you can select the angle of split, too.

You can try PoseRay. PoseRay can import both 3DS and OBJ and fix the creases.

Check the tutorial in the manual on how to use PoseRay to import creased models into Poser.
