Hey Jocko, I think that there are some real donkeys here in the forum. Nobody has the right to call anothers work bad things. Not here anyhow. Hey people, I personally don't see whats art about Andy Warhol and gee since I'm so damn smart and I'm sure a few others agree with my point of view then his work should be removed from all the art galleries. Sheesh what kind of people like his stuff. They can't be for real, must be he had lots of friends. I wish people would get off their high horses and just live with it, nobody is going to like everything they see. I don't like cubism, I love Dali. I'm sure there are people who hate Dali and love cubism. So unless you can pinpoint some valid things that would be helpful for a particular image to be improved upon and can express this in a helpful KIND manner, keep your opinions private. Anyhow, this is just my opinion and it doesn't mean squat in the grand scheme of things but its my soapbox. Peace, love and harmony

I agree with Warhol too.. he was a hack that a lot of people, much like around here, made popular!!

I got nothing against you either, Jocko. I don't think people need to be name calling or being rude to you. I think the main issue is the hot20 itself, and some have gotten out of hand. I'd just like an option not be included in the hot20, short of not posting pics at all.

Me, I'm now on Lemon Martini number 5, so I love everyone. When it comes to art, I think everyone should do what they feel happy with. You can't please all of the people all of the time, but you can at least make yourself feel good with what you achieve. Ok, I'm going to bed and looking forward to my hangover. Night.

The state of this forum is sad. He should have had no reason to start this thread, but the donkeys of this forum have decided that it's ok to be intolerant of art of all things. Let's all leave art as it is - art. OK? Good.

And here I sit drinking this caffeine-free Coke. Oh, well. And don't worry, Jocko, you can't please everyone. I sure can't. With my art or anything else, it seems. I'm just happy that there are some people who like what I do.

hmmnnnn....I think Warhol, like Marcel Duchamp has to be looked at mainly for his ideas. Like Duchamp, his work can seem silly unless you take the trouble to read why he worked the way he did, and understand what he was saying about art. Although DaDaism kinda led on to Surrealism, it was much more groundbreaking. Dali was (again, just my opinion) an astute, clever painter, an exhibitionist who latched on to other people's ideas and packaged them in a successful format. But in many ways he subverted the Surrealist movement by becoming, though his exhibitionism, synonymous with Surrealism in popular opinion. He found a horse to beat to death, found a formula that worked, and made him wealthy. I don't believe that he was sincere, or cared about anything but getting lots of attention. Art was just a vehicle that brought him fame and wealth. These are only my own views. I think when you're looking at anyone's work, you have to look not just at one piece, but at the body of their work, see what their interests are. Where one person may be interested in photo-realism, or telling a coherent story, other people may be interested in exploring colour, or telling a story in a different way, using symbols. The Fauvist movement and artists such as Klee Kandinsky Marc Chagall are all really interesting to read about......I'll shut up now, I'm lapsing into Teaching Mode.

@jocko500, I really have no problems with anyone here, post away,............I really can be quite charming once you get to know me,..........really. I am told that when I am wrong I should promptly admit it,.........so if I posted anything that has offended you personally or the Forum as a whole,.....I offer my sincere apologies. Maybe I was a tad jealous at all the attention your work seems to get ? And I'm an old fart and cranky most of the time. @pogmahone Klee and Kandinsky I can understand,........but Chagall ??? refrigerator art,.....never did get his stuff. But then again I love Albert Pinkham Ryder's stuff, so what's that say about me and my taste in art ?

Jocko, I think you are so funny, and such a good person to take all of this with a grain of salt. IMHO, the culprit is the Hot 20 itself. Lets get rid of it, and there won't be any more issues. It just isn't fun any more.

eryt ( ) posted Thu, 09 December 2004 at 10:52 PM

I like Jock's work. Art is expressed in myriads of form and color, technique and intrepation. Who is anyone to question what art is? Art is simply one persons intrepation of color, form, perspective, manipulation, etc, etc....and all of it is fine. As far as the hot 20..so what? all that means is that on any given day, more people who like one particular form of expression, vote on it...the next day, others may vote on some form of expression that is entirely different. I have been on the hot20 list and didnt know until someone told me. It was nice...but it doesn't mean a whole lot in the scheme of things. Just enjoy what others do, attempt to do, and always remember, critics always have an agenda...they have to fine 'something' to criticize... Peace to all.
