Maybe you should look into wonkie.
I'm in my first week of Poser5, I am dial crazy, and everything is working splendidly with the dials. Sometimes I spin them, sometimes I click on the number and type in a value, sometimes I DClick on the dial to get to the graph for animation.
Now, I do notice that when I grab the dial and spin to a certain value, when I let go (un-click) the numerical value DOES change a tick or two. However, the position of the body part does NOT move. I figure that is some sort of rounding or equalizing or maybe even limits interaction. I never even noticed it before, because the body part change is rock solid when I let go. I don't even know if that's the way it was in P4PP!
I love the collapsing file structure.
