Assuming that is correct, I can think of two other possible causes off the top of my head; (1)The codec install in Windows is hosed in some way. Poser depends on your OS to be configured right, and version conflict or the interferance of another app can kill a codec pretty quick. Also, some codecs auto-destruct, to force an upgrade. Those tend not to be too popular in the world, but they are still out there... (2)Where is the camera in all of this? Another cause of gray screen is the camera's view fustrum being clipped -inside- an object, such as a wall. There is a very small window of conflict where you can see the scene, but it simply will not render because the rendering 'lens' is occluded by some prop or other...
