I suppose it also kinda depends on what you want to do with it. I've used the Graphire 3 for a couple years and am very happy with it, but I'm not creating from scratch, just manipuation, painting hair on poser models, little things. I think if I were doing full blown art and "hand painting" things, I would need a larger area of tablet than the 4X5 graphire, and probably more features the better.
