In a nutshell color management means the controls you apply to various devices so that they can work together to give you the right output that you wanted. All the devices you use to create a digital image file, from digital cameras, scanners, monitors, printers all use color. If you think of color as a language..... All of your devices speak a different language of color. But when you use color management you are using a universal language so to speak so that each device interpets the colors you want them to use and outputs them in the way that you desire. The website linked in the original post does an excellent job of explaining color management..... take a look at it if you have the chance. :~)
