In addition to reading the manual, I'd suggest finding websites you really admmire but which aren't too complex. Then, using your browser menu (on Netscape it's under "View"), select "Page Source" to look at the HTML code that the site is built on to see how the author of the site did his/her thing. Nothing wrong in ripping off a few lines of good code!
