Subject: Hair Files Wont Take MATs

Terry Mitchell ( ) posted Sun, 16 January 2005 at 7:08 AM · edited Thu, 27 February 2025 at 8:19 AM

I have some hair (hr2) files and some MATs (for different hair colors) that are supposed to work with them but they don't. For example, the DAZ Cool Coils hair - when I select the hair Body then click on the MAT file, nothing happens. Only happens on a few hair files, not all. Any ideas what's going on?

You can't select the body of the Cool Coils - it's a .hr2 file, not a character. Your selection should say Figure 1>Cool Coils. Actually I didn't think the Cool Coils came with MATs - are these MAT files from someone else?

Yup, this is a common thing if you have loaded the hair after you loaded something else. The hair needs to be re-parented to the main figure.

What Sam said. One of Poser's idiosyncrasies is that MATs won't work on props unless they are parented to a figure.

I beg to differ. I often use hair from the Hair library, and have never needed to parent or re-parent it. That's all done when the hair is created.

Yeah, but have you tried bringing in just the hair, no figure, then changing the color with a MAT pose?

You can`t usually load hair unless a figure is in the scene unless it is a figure as hair.

Some hairs are prop files, and can be loaded without a figure.

As for the hair becoming de-parented...I wouldn't know, because hair is usually the last thing I add.

Yep, needed to bring in a character, apply the hair and parent it, then the MATs worked fine. Thank you all.

Karen1573, yes, I have MATs for Cool Coils hair from somewhere. Several different color variations. Don't know where I got them from, but I've had theme ever sinse shortly after the hair originally came out.
