True. A number of folks were enamored with National Socialism before the war, just as many saw socialism/Communism as a panacea. Anti-Semitism has deep roots here as elsewhere. The US could have taken in far more Jewish refugees from the holocaust but declined. FDR wasn't exactly pro Jewish either. Strangely the Christian right has become very pro Jewish of late, though I somehow suspect it has more to do with apocalyptic prophecy and Israel than newly discovered piety. Of course, I doubt that God suddenly decided in the latter part of this century to tell the Mormons that discriminating against Blacks was a no no. Call me cynical.
