Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
Another way round the slow startup is to set up an empty runtime & park poser in that when you shut it down, then next time you fire it up it'll be much faster starting. I guess I should say I'm using Windows with a Pentium 4 2.0Ghz with 1Gb of Ram, I have loads running in the background right now when I did a quick test. 632Mb Runtime (smallish) startup 16 seconds 0Mb Runtime startup 14 seconds how big is your runtime & what else are you running at the time? it should be loading up much faster than you reported.

Lucifer Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try. I did try replacing the Runtime folder with an alias, but that crashed poser everytime. As for me, my Runtime is around 9gb, with my texture folder being 4gb of it. When I did my tests, I didn't have anything else running, but usually my browser, mail, and itunes are on when I start up poser.
I think the most important thing with Poser5 startup is did you get rid of Content Parasite? that really slows it down. Have you got everything in the one runtime though? split them into seperate runtimes per character, v3 & everything she owns, m3 & everything he owns & so on.

Not sure if this is something that has been discussed before, but my Poser takes FOREVER to startup. I was interested in checking out what made it take so long, and realized that the larger my 'textures' folder got, the longer it took to start. I did the simplist thing and removed my 'textures' folder from my Runtime, and placed an alias there instead. I was shocked at the speed my P5 took upon startup. I ran another test and saw that applying a texure under the alias took 25% longer, but for me, that's a non issue because I'm not constantly changing textures on my figures. I'm not sure how this will work for other users, but for me it's a godsend. specs: Poser 5-SR4 Mac G4-867 dual-processor. OSX 10.3.7
