So, gimme ... I give you money in exchange ;-)

I have shiny beads ... do they accept shiny beads?

.... if I were in CL's shoes I might not wanna let the competition know my plans until the last minute.

What competition? Aside from DAZ|Studio, which doesn't even have IK yet, let alone the content-creation tools ....

Tunesy ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 8:34 PM

...I agree with ya there dragon. I was just being deferential to the daz cheerpeople ;) D|S isn't even a player yet.

zippyozzy ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 8:37 PM

OT: I can't stand D/S. I think it's a POS. Doesn't even work on my machine unles I upgrade my graphics card. which I can't afford to do just yet. I dont see anything special about it, give me poser anyday of the week.

Curious_Labs ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 8:44 PM

Hi zippyozzy, I'll check with Customer Service tomorrow and find out what we can do to fix the email issue. I do know that there are some servers that block our emails from a spam filter. Do you think that could be possible? I've sent you a private IM to request your contact details to help us resolve. With kind regards, Katherine

Katherine, ??? I think you got the wrong poster. I'm not a CS member. :)

"PS any chance you have a spamblock between CL and you?" If there is, why would it be just the one addy. Don't get me wrong on the product, I love my P5 and could never go back to P4. I would think P6 would be better. I'm not being nasty about the software, it's customer service I have lost respect for. "You seem to know at least one thing the rest of us don't :(" Just read all the interviews, CL has stated that P6 is a bug fix with a couple of extras including the one room everyone does not want, Content Paradise. They don't seem to have a problem taking my money on the net and sending sale slips.

Curious_Labs ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 8:57 PM

Hi zippyozzy and beryld, Sorry, I did scroll a bit too hi to capture the name. Thank you for the correction. beryld, I will be sending you an IM shortly. Kind regards, Katherine

What $50 gift certificate? Wonder why I never get emails from CL, only hear about stuff by chance here. All my products are registered and I haven't changed my email. And I did sign up for the newsletter a while back. Marque

Tashar59 ( ) posted Tue, 01 February 2005 at 9:46 PM

I think it was more the Shade crowd that heard about it. It was during the talk of CL's first Shade Content CD.

typo on my part that shoulda been CL not CS lol. :)

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 12:31 AM

I have no idea. What are "Jerry beads"?

(I hope this isn't one of those questions I'll regret asking later.)

ArtyMotion ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 12:34 AM

ROFLMAO!!! Hmmm ... all it would take for you to know the answer to that question is to watch the Jerry Springer show, just once. And I guarantee you'll never watch it again! ROFL

"If there is, why would it be just the one addy."

Having to guess here but - because one of the ways spamblocks works is to assiciate addys as being a source of spam. Then block them.

"No way I'll pay that price for a bug fix."
"You seem to know at least one thing the rest of us don't :("
"Just read all the interviews"

Which one gives the price, please? (the price you're unwilling to pay). Is there no room for them to make useability improvements to existing features as well as bug fixes?

Personally I hope CL change their policy of overcharging Europeans :)

Cheers,

Cliff

I have a strong suspicion that if it wasn't for at least 2 catalogs advertising it already, CL would be saying absolutely nothing about even a hint of a whisper of an inkling of a ghost of a due date, let alone specs or capabilities. If the cat is out of the bag, you can always tempt him back... but if the whole family has clawed loose, you have but 2 legs to their dozens... in all directions and up the tree. Meanwhile, I'm glad that it is coming and will be all ears. Carolly

Please CL Guys & Girls ignore every post that has anything like "release it now" or "I want it now" or anything else similar & just get it working & mostly bug free before you release it. I hope the guys with the money saw what happened last time with EgiSys & learn something, like release it when it's ready not when you're desperate for cash. Anyway good luck with the new version & fingers crossed I'll have enough money saved by the time it's released :D

"Which one gives the price, please? (the price you're unwilling to pay). The mag in post #3. There was also a price list in another thread taken from a collage supply mag, somewhere here. I may not have calculated the upgrade price, What, %50, still will need to think long on it. I never said, "there no room for them to make useability improvements to existing features as well as bug fixes?" But read RDNA's interview to see where I'm coming from. More or less stated it is a fix. Maybe there are those that want the content room. I guess it won't matter, someone will find what to toast to get rid of it, like we do now. Now if there is some proper lighing, I may change my mind.

WARNING!

This user has been known to swear. A LOT!

who3d ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 7:18 AM

"Which one gives the price, please? (the price you're unwilling to pay)." "I may not have calculated the upgrade price, What," Exactly. You don't know the price for the upgrade (although you do know a price for the full product as quoted in a catalogue which erroneously listed it. So that price is PROBABLY right for that product to that audience). "I never said, "there no room for them to make useability improvements to existing features as well as bug fixes?"" No, you said: "No way I'll pay that price for a bug fix." Without knowing the price or, it now seems, whether there's more than bug fixes in it. I'm trying to understand your position here. I'm a pedant - I can only get the information I'm given and work from that, so everything I say is base don what I read. I remember the first release of Poser 5 - I'm pretty sur eI had one of the first in the country, which means I got stung on the price as well as getting a far too early for release version. I don't think CL need a "well done" pat on the back at this point, and it's a little late to be suggesting features for Poser 6. that time wa probably when they were requesting user feedback on what we'd like to see in Poser 6. However, I don't think it's QUITE the time to string them up based on pricing we don't know for a specification we don't know. Just my two penneth - I can EASILY understand anyone not wanting to upgrade "at any price" based on the Poser 5 release/fix schedule, and I can EASILY understand anyone who loves Poser 5 (like I do now it works) looking hopefully towards "even better" with Poser 6. I just couldn't understand reasoning based on facts that we don't have. Sorry :( Cheers, Cliff

Wow. That's good to hear. Thanks for the link, Khai. Sixus said, "our involvment is not on any monsters. We all gotta grow, ya know." I'm glad to hear that. Those guys make some terrific content. I'm just not a big monster fan. They scare me ;)

Will P6 be coming out on the Mac at the same time, or will we be waiting like last time?

DrunkMonkey ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 10:41 AM

SIGH and I just got P5 and used my $50 gift cert. to get it. Oh well, I guess I'll just do like I did with P5 and let the "I want it now" crowd beta test it for me :-)

who3d ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 12:01 PM

Let me rephrase then - their policy of overcharging before value addd tax (which gets added on top!) Cheers, Cliff

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 12:29 PM

If you look at the Sixus1 project human figures, they have gotten better and better over time. Quite honestly, Adam2 is one of my favorite figures. I can't wait to see what figures they've come up with :) As a side note, I hope there is an upgrade version to P6 from P5 since I didn't buy P5 all that long ago...

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 2:20 PM

before value addd tax (which gets added on top!) High tax rates drive prices up all the way around. There's a domino effect.

pigfish9 ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 2:38 PM

I preordered Poser5 early enough to get a numbered, autographed box. Even though P5 had some early problems (I didn't have nearly as many as most people even though I was running WinME), I'm still willing to grab P6 right away if it has any exciting new features. Of course, the feature I was most excited about when Poser5 was advertised was the Face Room and I gave up on it a long time ago. Here's hoping P6 comes out before the $50 coupon expires!

Lawndart ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 2:47 PM

Jerry Springer? Why would anyone need to watch Jerry Springer when they are in the forums here. Jerry Springer has no excitement at all compared to the forums. Fights happen quicker here. Heck, you don't even need to have a reason to beat the hell out of people here. LOL

who3d ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 2:54 PM

"Heck, you don't even need to have a reason to beat the hell out of people here." And WHAT EXACTLY do you mean by that????? Heeheee :) Cliff

Lawndart ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 3:07 PM

See what I mean? ROFLMAO That was perfect timing Cliff. LOL...

zippyozzy ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 3:34 PM

hmm, how Jerry Springer got caughtup in this thread is beyond me lol. As long as P6 in my price range I'll buy it. :P Cheers

who3d ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 3:39 PM

No worries LawnDartLawnDart - I'd rather a bit of humour amongst real discussion than the more volatile threads that can happen from time to time Cheers, Cliff

ArtyMotion ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 3:40 PM

.... it all started with the beads .... ROFL I'm going to get it also. I've had every release since version 1, I'm not gonna stop now. 8-)

Lyne ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 4:27 PM

Well I just hope they fix the "black spot render" problem that was to have been fixed in p5.. which I am just now finding and trying to learn a work around...

Life Requires Assembly and we all know how THAT goes!

JHoagland ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 5:22 PM

I want Poser 6 now! Now! I don't care if it's actually a late-Beta version. I want it now! I would rather have a buggy version than no version at all. I want to pay a company so I can test their software for them. I want to download a new service pack every day so the software will work as promised. I want to have to post messages in the forums about typos in the manual. And I want to pay a "special" pre-order price for it. I don't want to wait 3 months to see if I can save $150 by buying it from Amazon.com. In other words, let's give CL enough time to fully finish and test Poser 6. And even then, we may want to wait until Service Pack 1 (or 2) until purchasing. --John

who3d ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 5:53 PM

Lyne:- is that the black-spot/mottled pattern when using raytraced shadows? I think one of the main fixes is to decrease the minimum shading rate until that goes away, IIRC (which I may not). You could also look at the possibility you've got some self-shading happening and adjust the shadow bias? Cheers, Cliff

operaguy ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 6:34 PM

lyne, i assume the work-around you are speaking of involves scaling up? And/or turning down min shading rate as who3d suggested? ::::: Opera :::::

operaguy ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 6:37 PM

Who3D, what is self-shading? ::::: Opera :::::

who3d ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 7:21 PM

self-shading is a problem common to ray-tracing engines where the math, due to minor imperfections, results in an item shading itself incorrectly. Imagine a floor that has "cast shadow" turned on. Now imagine that the shadow it casts falls on itself... Most render engines that I know of have a "bias" setting of some sort that allow you to add or subtract a variable amount to the "at surface" to start casting the shadow at. So the shadow falls BELOW the object by x amount not actauuly ON the object. Cheers, Cliff

who3d ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2005 at 7:22 PM

Dang! Typoman is out in force tonight :( Cliff

Lyne ( ) posted Thu, 03 February 2005 at 1:52 PM

No it is not self shading... and I found the work around to work perfectly! It is when one sided mesh is used, I believe. It is only on plants with flat single surfaces so to speak.. and it is NOT just the fire fly, or ray trace... I used the plain old poser 4 render, and then fire fly without ray trace, etc.. before I found the work around... it is simply the way that P5 READS and APPLIES the textures... there is a fault in there.. The work around is: 1- Plug the texture into an Alternate Diffuse Node 2- Unplug the texture from default Node 3- set default diffuse Node to a value of 0 and thought it sounds strange, and I am not a programmer, this fix works perfectly - to allow the maps to show up properly no matter what the lighting or render mode is! :) I am a happy camper now. I just hope that P6 (a year later maybe! ;) will allow me to save time and not have to "fix" all the map settings for the plants I use.

Life Requires Assembly and we all know how THAT goes!

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Thu, 03 February 2005 at 10:38 PM

Yes ... some weirdness with P5's default diffuse shader has been noted before. I often use the alternate channel myself, especially with transmapped items/materials.
