Resolution does not matter. Pixel count does. Traditional technologies like 4 color and web offset reproduction use Line Screens which can conflict with the geometry of the pixels. The 300 DPI standard comes the fact that few publications are printed at a higher resolution than 150 Lines per inch. Actually, a lot of your high end service bureaus use a form of printing software not unlike an inkjet, just more accurate and finer (smaller dots). I've done cactus prints at 4 foot for the short dimension, and the file they asked for was and RGB eps @ 1 megabyte per square inch! I know, thats what I said, but the prints turned out very well. Try calling someone a level higher than Kinkos and asking about large format printing- Iris, Cactus, Indigo. Also, check the back of Wired magazine for ads, I think I saw one or two back there. wow, I learned something at work! Mitch
