When things look too complicated in Bryce, sometimes its best to isolate each object in solo mode. This will hide all unselected objects in the scene leaving you to work on the selected object or objects. The solo button is located at the bottom. Its the tiny green circle between the video buttons when in select mode. Screen mode can be alternated between Time/Select using the, what else but the Time/Select toggle, a tiny little wiremesh like icon at the very bottom-right side of the interface.
To further make things easier in a crowded screen, it is also best to color code your objects into family groups and colors. This is accessible by first selecting the objects you want to include in a group and choosing a distinctive color and a distinctive name for that group. This way, all your bar stools will one color in wiremesh mode and your pool balls will be a different color and so on for your walls, lights, furnisheretc.
