Normally, NDA's cover things we're not meant to mention publicly until given permission to do so. Like software release info provided by a company or big site changes that may still be in the planning stage. No one wants their hard spent hours of work undermined by someone speaking about their project before their project is ready for public viewing. It can cause problems later on when things that were speculation are not implemented but were presented to the public as fact prematurly. I don't know what all happened here to cause anyone to leave but I thought I'd just help you understand why even a volunteer (which, by the way, we all are on some level) would be required to sign an NDA.
