I think it's a great effort and very fine modelling. I'm a little confused why there aren't any shadows in the pre-post version. Did you disable them? Have you tried with the sun? Also, I find the sun is never enough, so turn it off all together and put a radial (or two) in place of the sun set very high (power). Hopper's original has very high contrast, so you will get away with the walls being bleached out slightly. In this picture I didn't use the sun at all. Just two radials set at 999 and a few in the alley for ambience.
