Opera stated "[I also have another theory, having to do with our culture being infected with a distored sense of the Judeo-Christian ethic of forgiveness.]" I've yet to experience our culture (I'm assuming you mean Western / North American etc...) being infected with any such ethic... Our culture seems rampant with "An eye for an eye" (biblical) and a "You deserved whatever you got" sort of mentality that denotes more of a disregard for forgiveness than anything else. Society today seems more selfish & self centered than ever before, when one cares most for oneself then where does forgiveness come into play? Operaguy, I'd love to see our culture in such a light as you do... I am a christian and love my fellow men & women but sadly I just don't see much forgiveness in the world. Wow, it's late... must be when I start rambling like this!!! G
