First... never use the DAZ installer to simply let it install helterskelter whereever it damned well pleases today if it is a blue moon. They are messy. They are illogical. They are sloppy (Zygote people/DAZ people/Zygote character/Zygote characters/DAZ character/DAZ characters/!DAZ characters.. where the hell is the Frankie version of Mike?). And sometimes they don't even put things where they say they are putting them. Do you enjoy watching Poser spend 20 minutes hunting for a file? Readmes will overwrite each other if you let them all go into the one folder. Tough luck if you need to reinstall a file just so that its readme is the current one. Readmes which are "docs" won't get read at all for those of us on a Mac. Click on the installer. Do ***not*** choose "easy install". There is nothing easy about hunting down some transmap or requisite file because some idiot thought that a texture ought to be in the camera folder because too many users have filled up their poses folder. Bullshit. Why should I have to rename files because I think that cameras are cameras and hands are hands? Make a temporary folder on your desktop or some other easy-to-find place. Choose "custom install" or "extract" or whatever the current wording on the DAZ installer says (it changes). Extract everything to your temporary folder. Read the readme to see what you are supposed to have and what is it called and where DAZ thinks it ought to go. That is the only information you'll get out of it (nothing on how to use it), but you can spot problems with bad paths and too-long file names at this point. Being on a Mac, I use MacInstaller to place my files in folders I have made and organized. This way, I know where it is. If I want a dragon in a scene, I refuse to waste time going through a half dozen folders named after modelers, texturers, or brokerage houses when I can put all dragons under (golly gee whiz) Dragons. All horses under Horses. All merfolk under Merfolk. Duh! MacInstaller will make sure that a required earlier file is installed, so there is no problem with decoding. PC users have a couple of other programs which do the same thing. I don't give the tip of a rat's tail about who brokered the model at the time I bought it!!! All they did was take my money and hand me the product. If I need a spaceship, am I going to remember 3 years later that I bought it at DAZ or PoserPros or got it though Traveler's PropsClub (he has a real nifty one this week) or found it in FreeStuff here? Nope. If I want a space ship, I'll search my Library for "Vehicles - Spacecraft". I can compare them and choose the one I need and not the first one I managed to find. Logical. MY library. The link is to a thread on organizing and being systematic about it. Any system will work... you place things where *you* can find them... and it is far better than handing your program to some egocentric brokerage house that has yet to learn the basic principles of taxonomy.
