Hmm..I've downloaded about 70 or so from theForce.net, didn't know about the textures. I tend to make my own, and use stock mats from Bryce. If you want the .obj files, and make a stab at texturing them youself, I can send you what I've made myself..
theForce should have the best of the best...you can look for individual modelers out there, like Mateen Greenaway, etc. The problem you're likely running into, is that 'the movies' are done with custom software and hardware that costs 6-7 figures..you can get some pretty good approximation, but all that 'realism' comes at a price (you also have to balance polycounts [memory] against the animation, etc)
Bryce can handle other formats besides .obj; I know it will handle .dxf, and older .3ds files (don't know where the 'cutoff' is..I think around Lightwave 6, you independent millionaires who actually can afford Lightwave, please feel free to correct me..;). If you look in the Bryce manual (I'm at work, so I can't), there is a list of formats Bryce can handle.
