If I give somebody a rating, it's "excellent" if it's good because most images have so few ratings that anything less drags it down. It's always hard to criticize a work because two different people have different perspectives, so probably won't approach the same work the same way. Sometimes there are obvious things that should be fixed. Other times, a critique is little better than a personal preference. The problem with looking at an image and wanting to leave a critical comment is that some critics almost want to find something that isn't perfect about a work and leave their greater knowledge. Often, when I look at the critic's gallery, it's nothing to brag about and the work is often inferior to the one being critiqued. I prefer to leave positive comments because it takes a certain amount of courage to simply putting one's work on display. It's always better to encourage artists in their endeavors. If they're any good, they'll eventually find ways to improve on their own. The rare times that I can stroll through the galleries, I'd rather pat somebody on the back for doing good work than point out their flaws.
