Hi I have a problem, I can render and see the first scene that open after I start my poser, I can add light and the libraries works perfect, but when I try to Import anything else or just choice another ROOM it crash and the poser6 is gone from my desktop.... I open again and try to get into materialroom, everything close down and who know why? and one more thing, I can't find Material folder anymore into the Libraires Menu... Please help!! I got my first impression, I love well the light and the models.. Male model is better as M3 for sure, it looks realistic , the textures are not that high quality but that will not big deal, for the money you get more that enough! I am glad that my update is installed in separate directory so I can still use my Poser5.. I wish to make some nice renders using my P5 scenes but as you read above it just don't allow me to move from the pose room in any way... Cath

ok I just had this myself I think it's related to zonealarm. I did a reinstall, removed p6 from the zonealarm list, unblocked java.exe, rebooted and bingo. Poser6 was running again. I dunno what I did but somehow I fixed it...

Ultrop ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 7:05 AM

Try this. I disabled all my backround programs. (booting in safe mode may do the same). Atleast diable firewall and anti-virus. Install and run poser. Access all the rooms. I kiled of the pop-up help windows. Reboot with everything turned on. You should have a working poser. To get the pop-up help back reset to factory defaults. Why tis works is beyond me, but it is wort a try.

Hi Catherine, The link brings you to my problem with P6 and the solution I found. Maybe its also usefull for you.

Mec4D ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 7:26 AM

Yes I use Norton Internet Security and Anti Virus maybe it is the problem? I try everything right now , reinstalled but still get crash if I try to move or save anything... I think that is a very bad situation for the users but as usuall there is always something wrong with the first version but one thing make me worry, what use Poser6 that our security system don't like? and why other members don't have the problem and we well.. is the security system of other members not that good? it is strange to me but I go to try one more time and we see if this works or not.. Thank you for your help Cath

Using Zone Alarm here with Poser 6 - no issues. I did allow Poser 6 through. I'm using Avast! Antivirus but have no software firewall running (hardware one instead). WinXP Pro, SP-1

.

Khai ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 7:54 AM

here I think the problem was simple.. I was installing another program when ZA popped up and asked if a part of it could access the net.. thing was, I was typing in Messenger.. and ZA grabbed the focus, took it as denied, locked it down and stopped poser running. it wasn't (here) actually a poser prob.. it was an annoyance with ZA...

Mec4D ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 8:07 AM

I don't use Zone Alarm and did now really everything but self Poser6 don't allow me to save scene, it was not what I pay for.. and now have to spend all day long figuring out what the hell is wrong... :( I don't like frustrations like this and I don't like to mess in my system because one software can't works normal as all 100 other... give me a idea please!!!

HEY PEOPLE!I haven't gotten my copy yet so can we keep it down in here...lol...I'm glad the problem was simple I was starting to worry....

Netherworks ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 8:26 AM

I'm not familiar with Norton stuff since 9x but I wish I could help. Can you make a "rule" to allow Poser 6 through the firewall? Are you having any very noticable "redraw" artifacts? Make sure you have updated graphics drivers. Try using software preview mode in Poser and see what happens. I'm just trying to think of everything I can without knowing how your system is set up

.

Mec4D ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 8:41 AM

everything working good, I can render, I can move the figures set the light add the model to the scene but not moving from the pose room or save scene, I can well edit render option or access walk design or just render.. I think maybe it was the help pop up.. because I have a blocker on my computer.. I installed now Poser6 on WinXP SP-2 I allow Poser 6 through the firewall.. that is not problem.. Maybe something with the graphic card but never have any problems before for last one year.. I use NVIDIA as requested.. I use all software as Max, Cinema and all other without any problems.. it is not my system I guess.. how I can remove the help pop-up without to start poser6? maybe this help?

Netherworks ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 8:46 AM

I'd try this: Turn of your blocker temporarily (just for a test). Start Poser and go to each room and close the help pop-ups. Close Poser. Start your blocker. Go back to Poser.

.

Mec4D ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 8:53 AM

I did this just now.. I turn off everything from virus scanner to firewall and after I try to get into one of the room everything is gone from the screen again... a ghost software looks like.. I am finish and have not idea what is going on , I installed 4 times Poser6 already I get tired.. 😢

This is why I picked the shipped version rather than download, so I could spend 2 weeks watching others tear their hair out rather than doing that myself. I don't have much left and I want to keep what I've got :) With any luck CL will have their first couple service patches out in that length of time.

artistheat ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 9:14 AM

Yea..They are already working on a service pack...CL and Microsoft must be Brothers...lol..

Mec4D ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 9:27 AM · edited Tue, 22 March 2005 at 9:28 AM

from the behavior of the software while crashing on some of the options it tell me that it will not works fine with my Ge-Force NVIDIA card what was requested and I have new driver update.. if this will not works with my ATI Radeon pro 9800 or Voodoo 3 then I have to wait they fix this... I did really everything I can to get this works so now only testing the another video cards to see if It can help, I hope well..

Berserga ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 9:28 AM

Why don't you just temporarily uninstall your firewall to see if that is the problem? If Poser 6 works after that you may want to call NORTON tech support. Honestly conflicts happen, it's no reason to get discouraged.

Mec4D ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 9:30 AM

Berserga I did and it is not problem with the firewall I can render images or animation, I can't access the other rooms.. after the first po-up window open it crash before I can do anything.. give me a time I go and make test with my other graphic cards so we are sure what is on the hand...

Try this and see if if helps.

Look in Runtimeprefs for the "Poser UI Prefs_###x###.xml" that corresponds to your display resolution.
Make a copy and open the original in a text editor.
Search for htmlWindowOn="1" and replace "1" with "0" (note not global, just for htmlWindowOn)
Save and try the other rooms.

This will stop the HtmlHelp window from showing.

Mazak ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 10:58 AM

I hope this help, copy and paste from CL support: "When Poser has been running successfully for a while, but then starts behaving badly, often it's because the preference files have become corrupted. This is annoying but easily fixed. Exit Poser and navigate to C:/Program Files/Curious Labs/Poser 5/Runtime/prefs and delete the Poser configuration file (Poser.ini), the LibraryPrefs.xml file and any Poser UI Prefs XML files that may be present. Leave the Default UI Prefs as Poser needs those. Second, if deleting your preferences doesn't cure the problem, it may be necessary to uninstall and reinstall Poser. When installing and running any Curious Labs software, we advise users to make sure no other programs are running and all startup item are disabled. This can be accomplished by using the msconfig utility. On Windows 98, Me and XP, you can see what applications are actually starting up with Windows by going to Start > Run > type "msconfig" > OK. This will start the System Configuration Utility. Click the "Startup" tab. Every checked item listed in the Startup Item list is running every time you start the system. Uncheck as many as possible, then disable nonessential services as follows. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide all Microsoft Services" checkbox and click "Disable All". Restart to boot into this "minimal" configuration. Uninstall and reinstall your software from the CD or downloaded installer file. Uninstalling will not remove either preference files or any custom or third-party content that you have installed to your Poser libraries, as only the items originally installed are removed. Immediately update the software with the latest updater (if applicable; check our website, www.curiouslabs.com/go/downloads/updates) Restart the system to return to the normal configuration. Launch the software and test its features to see if there has been any improvement to its behavior." Mazak

I don't have p6 yet but if there is a way to disable OpenGL support in the app, give this a try and make sure you have the latest drivers from nVidia. -Mark

Hi, thanks I try this everything until now
and everything is the same :(
so long I don't save or move to other room is everything fine for so long I wish so i don't think graphic card have to do with this problem.. I have this problem too a very long ago with Poser5 as well but after updates everything was ok again... so maybe it is the same problem I don't know for real anymore, I try everything.. maybe java problem? cna be? but Poser5 works fantastic and use the same way for the room too.. :( now I can call myself a sucker.. not because of the bad content of Poser6 but because it don't works for me...

How stupid little thing can damage the whole day.. I was just frustrated and give myself one more chance, then I go into the rendering setting and change the PREVIEW setting, see the image above, first it was on OpenGL > software and that made the crash of the Poser all the time, I set the OpenGL>hardware and now every room open without problem, and everything is solved and everything works fantastic and I am so happy again :)) Thank you for your help, I suspected that it have something to do with the OpenGL as well but will never imagine that it was so little evil setting, it is good to know for the future.. I save the state direct so it not change again.. Time for some super renders now :)))) Cath

It sounded like it was OpenGL related. Unfortunately the cards and drivers from different manufacturers work differently so these things happen. Seems like going to SreeD should fix the problem as well. Glad you got it working. -Mark

Mec4D ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 4:19 PM

Interesting. In the Poser 6 Readme they specifically recommend that one should NOT use Hardware Accumulation Buffer, they say that one should leave it at default 'Software'. Hmm, very interesting...... But it's great you got your P6 working, Cath! :] Fish

Mec4D ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2005 at 5:42 PM

yes but if I did this as they wrote , what I saw as well..I could be bald until tomorrow or have to buy a new glas for my window :) ha ha and it is great to have working it now and I tell you I am impressed with the new features.. it can be better but for the money it is just perfect! and I don't have to jump from one software to another anymore and that spare my nerves :) I go to check out the model in DP3D and maybe I will prepare some new quick good resolution freebie for my website with head textures for James because I love this model already and wish self to see how he works with better resolution I think he will looks fantastic! see you later around and thanks again for all the quick help you support to me! it is nice from you Cath

P6 is by far the best Poser yet, however, I am have a similar issue as well. I can switch rooms, change lighting, render, everything. But, when I attempt to save or export a render...Crashes to the desktop everytime. I do not use Norton or ZoneAlarm (use McAfee), so that eliminates that, and I have tried all the setting changes above with no luck. I can, however, copy image and paste into Photoshop, so I have a workaround until I can discover the issue.
