Well, there was a time I LOOKED for reasons to not go to work. And a movie was, for me, the best. There was a time I even left work early to go to a movie. I loved movies and didn't give a damn about work, so substituting one for the other was sooooo easy.

Nowadays I'm less likely to do it only because I don't get that excited about movies anymore.

And yeah, the cell phone (along with the video tape and DVD) have totally obliterated the fine art of knowing when to shut the hell up. People just don't believe there's a reason to refrain from talking. I've sat in theatres where people are having genuine conversations. Now even about the movie! Just sitting there talking like they were in their living room.

This is why I tend to go to early shows. Especially for new films that I don't want to wait and see. That first weekend is when the socializers go. i.e., the people who use the movies as a social occasion as opposed to wanting to see a story unfold before them. Those're the people most likely to talk through the whole damned thing or have a phone conversation.

Curiously all my kids feels the same way. They hate people who talk through a movie. Because I've been teaching them movie equiette since they were toddlers.
